Expansion of the passenger area,
Saarbrücken Airport (SCN)

Passenger figures at Saarbrücken airport increased steadily until the end of the 1990s. To account for this increase, the airport operator called for tenders to expand the passenger area.

In cooperation with the architectural firm asp (Arat – Siegel und Partner), dip built a modern terminal which opened roughly twelve months after construction begin in 2001.

The aesthetic construction made of glass, steel and aluminium with its curved roof exudes an almost filigree appearance despite its size and also allows plenty of daylight into the hall.

It also provides room for passenger handling, luggage conveyor belts, building services engineering, commercial space and conference rooms. With its ingenious, striking colour design, the terminal boasts a well laid-out, pleasant atmosphere – passengers are able to locate and reach all functional areas easily.

Through effective coordination, dip managed to ensure smooth airport operations for the entire duration of construction.

9,630

sq. m of floor space

The aesthetic structure of steel, glass, and aluminum—featuring a sweeping roofline—appears almost delicate despite its size and allows abundant natural light to flood the hall.

It accommodates facilities such as passenger processing areas, baggage handling systems, building services, commercial spaces, and conference rooms. A well-conceived, attractive color scheme and interior design create a pleasant, easy-to-navigate environment where all functional areas are clearly visible and accessible to passengers.

Through effective coordination, dip successfully ensured uninterrupted airport operations throughout the entire construction phase.
