Altstadt-Hafen Wismar car park

Relief for drivers in the Hanseatic UNESCO world heritage town of Wismar no more time wasted looking for portside parking. On 7 June 2018, Christian Pegel, minister for energy, infrastructure and digitalisation and Thomas Beyer, mayor of Wismar, jointly opened the new car park building on Wismar’s Alter Hafen (old harbour).

211 new parking spaces on five levels adjacent Wismar’s harbour provide immediate relief for parking facilities in the town centre. Due to its location in the town centre, which is listed as a “Unesco World Heritage Site”, the new building’s design had to fulfil high demands. Noise abatement measures also had to be implemented.

Due to the condition of the site soil, an elaborate pile foundation was required.

The car park is a full-storey construction making it well laid out and user-friendly so drivers – most of whom are unfamiliar with the town – can park their cars easily and safely.
The future development of the district was also taken into consideration. Depending on future demands, the car park can be expanded in two sections for a total of 600 parking spaces.
The architecture firm Lengfeld & Wilisch from Darmstadt with car park experience skilfully implemented these specifications.
