Expansion of the passenger area, Saarbrücken Airport (SCN)
Passenger figures at Saarbrücken airport increased steadily until the end of the 1990s. To account for this increase, the airport operator called for tenders to expand the passenger area.
In cooperation with the architectural firm asp (Arat – Siegel und Partner), dip built a modern terminal which opened roughly twelve months after construction begin in 2001.
The aesthetic construction made of glass, steel and aluminium with its curved roof exudes an almost filigree appearance despite its size and also allows plenty of daylight into the hall.
It also provides room for passenger handling, luggage conveyor belts, building services engineering, commercial space and conference rooms. With its ingenious, striking colour design, the terminal boasts a well laid-out, pleasant atmosphere – passengers are able to locate and reach all functional areas easily.
Through effective coordination, dip managed to ensure smooth airport operations for the entire duration of construction.

Die ästhetische Konstruktion aus Stahl, Glas und Aluminium mit ihrer geschwungenen Dachform wirkt trotz ihrer Größe fast filigran und lässt viel Tageslicht in die Halle.
Sie bietet unter anderem Platz für Passagierabfertigung, Gepäckförderanlagen, Gebäudetechnik, Gewerbeflächen und Konferenzräume. Die durchdachte, ansprechende Farbgestaltung und Innenausstattung machen das Terminal übersichtlich zu einer angenehmen Umgebung – alle Funktionsbereiche sind für die Fluggäste leicht zu erkennen und zu erreichen.
Durch effektive Koordination gelang es dip, den Flughafenbetrieb während der gesamten Bauphase störungsfrei zu gewährleisten.
