New Garage Regulations for North Rhine-Westphalia (GarVO)
Increased parking spot widths as of 2017
The legislative body has taken action. As of 4 January 2017, North Rhine-Westphalia has, as first federal state, implemented with legal effect new regulations concerning the construction and operation of garages (Garage Regulations – GarVO). The new regulations will focus on providing for wider parking spots stipulating a new minimum width for new parking garages of 2.45 as the previous width of 2.30 m is no longer sufficient for many new vehicles. To provide for easy manoeuvring, the driving lane width of 6 m, which has been customary to date, will only be permitted for a parking spot width of 2.55 m (previously 2.30 m).
dip parking garages comply with this new standard. The dip ceiling permits parking spots with flexible widths of up to 2.70 m. This will ensure that future generations of cars will have more room to park and make getting in and out of vehicles safe and convenient.

"European Gold Standard Parking Award" for the parking garage of the Jena University Hospital
As the general contractor, dip constructed the parking garage in roughly 15 months. The builder and future operator Contipark opened it according to plan on 4 May 2016. GIVT mbH planned the structure.

dip at the 7th “Colloquium” for traffic structures
The Technical Akademie Esslingen (TAE) puts on the 7th Colloquium for “Traffic Structures”. The colloquium enables the interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge and experience in the area of parking garages and is firmly established in the parking garage sector.
As a leader for quality in the business of turn-key parking garage construction, dip was on location this year as an exhibitor. The results speak for themselves: The dip ceiling not only the solution of choice when it comes to current technical guidelines, but also future requirements for the construction of parking garages. Furthermore, objectives in terms of the planning and construction of parking garages are getting increasingly complex. dip supports architects and builders in every stage and offers service with genuine added value.
Focuses of the Colloquium:
Expert speakers unanimously emphasised the importance of professional planning based on technical building regulations (ETB) as the foundation for quality and longevity. Complex planning tasks can only be solved by a team.
Investment versus maintenance costs
The transparent itemisation of costs is also crucial. Even early on in the planning stage, it helps the builder make long-term decisions such as whether to take a standard or custom construction approach. The planner’s task is therefore to inform the builder early on about the usable life and lifecycle costs of its building project.
“Parking garages and underground garages” leaflet
The new leaflet from the German Deutschen Beton- und Bautechnikverein (DVB) is expected to be published in 2016. It provides information on planning fundamentals and provides solutions for construction details as well as information on sustainable construction.
